Frequently Asked Questions

About My Clinical Supervision Services

What is clinical supervision and why do I need it?

Clinical supervision is a professional support process that helps clinicians enhance their skills, navigate challenging cases, and maintain their wellbeing. Research shows it significantly decreases the risk of burnout, moral injury, compassion fatigue, and impostor syndrome. As a clinician, supervision helps you feel more confident and effective in your work while protecting your personal wellbeing.

Who can benefit from your clinical supervision?

My supervision services are specifically designed for Social Workers, Psychotherapists (both Registered and Qualifying), and Counsellors. I specialize in supporting professionals who want to thrive in their practice while maintaining work-life balance.

What types of supervision do you offer?

I offer several formats to meet different needs:

  • Individual Supervision (one-on-one sessions)

  • Dyadic Supervision (with a partner of your choice or matched with another clinician)

  • Drop-in Dyadic Supervision (for those without a regular partner)

  • Group Supervision (both open virtual groups and closed series)

  • Specialized "Power Hour" groups for experienced clinicians

What's the difference between open and closed groups, and what are the benefits of each?

Open groups allow participants to join on a drop-in basis without any ongoing commitment. These groups are ideal if you need flexibility in your schedule or want to try group supervision before committing to a closed series. They're perfect for decreasing isolation while maintaining scheduling freedom. They are also perfect for those looking to add some extra supervision hours or to be exposed to a variety of different therapists and expertise.

Closed groups consist of the same members meeting regularly over a set period (typically monthly for several months). These groups build deeper connections, trust, and community among participants. The consistent membership allows for stronger relationships to develop, which enhances the learning experience. As I often say, "The connection and community that builds throughout the series is one of my favourite aspects of group supervision."

Why should I add external supervision to my professional development?

External supervision (outside your workplace) provides several unique benefits:

  1. Confidential space to discuss workplace challenges without concerns about internal politics or worrying about being vulnerable with your supervisor who is also your manager

  2. Fresh perspectives from someone who isn't invested in your group practice or organization's dynamics

  3. Freedom to be vulnerable about professional doubts, fears, or challenges

  4. Targeted support for your specific growth areas and career aspirations

  5. Networking opportunities with other professionals in your field

  6. Protection against burnout and compassion fatigue through regular, dedicated support

  7. For qualifying practitioners, ensuring your supervision meets regulatory requirements

External supervision complements internal supervision by giving you a more holistic support system for your professional growth.

What can I expect to discuss during supervision?

In our sessions, we can address a wide range of topics including case consultations, ethical discussions, professional development, psycho-education, private practice challenges, workplace stressors, or personal wellbeing concerns. I create a safe, judgment-free environment where you can be vulnerable about your professional practice concerns.

What are your supervision rates?

  • Initial Consultation (20 minutes): Free

  • 30-minute Supervision Consult: $85

  • Individual Clinical Supervision: $160 per clinical hour (50 min + 10 mins notes/prep)

  • Dyadic Supervision: $80 per person per clinical hour

  • Group Supervision: $40 per person per hour ($60 for 1.5-hour sessions, $80 for 2-hour sessions)

Do you offer flexible scheduling options?

Yes! I offer both regular scheduled sessions and drop-in options. For those who need flexibility, my open virtual supervision groups or drop-in dyadic supervision are ideal. For those who prefer consistency and community, I offer closed group series that meet monthly. For those who want the VIP treatment, individual supervision can be booked at times that work with your schedule and as frequently (or not) as you require it.

Are you qualified to provide CRPO supervision attestation forms?

Yes. As a Registered Social Worker with OCSWSSW, I meet the CRPO & CCPA supervisor requirements and can provide supervision attestation forms upon request.

How do I book a session with you?

You can book directly through my website using the "Book Now" button for open groups and consultations. For closed groups or specialized arrangements, please contact me directly.

What should I ask during an initial supervision consultation?

To make the most of your free 20-minute consultation, I recommend asking these key questions:

  1. Qualifications and Training: Verify that I meet your regulatory requirements (OCSWSSW, CRPO, etc.) and have specific supervision training. If needed, can your supervisor to sign off on Supervision or Direct Client Contact hours?

  2. Modalities and Frameworks: Ask about my theoretical orientation (I use an eclectic approach including CBT, ACT, narrative, and solution-focused therapies with a values-focused foundation).

  3. Supervision Style: Inquire about how I structure sessions and handle topics like ethical dilemmas, workplace stress, or impostor syndrome.

  4. Session Structure: Discuss logistics like session length (50 minutes for individual sessions), format (virtual), and frequency options.

  5. Fees and Policies: Ask about my rates, payment methods (e-transfer and credit card), and cancellation policies.

Before our consultation, I recommend checking out my social media presence (@banksia.clinical.supervision on Instagram) to get a feel for my style and approach.

I also have extensive experience working with children, youth and families, as I was a School Social Worker, Child and Family Therapist with a Children’s Mental Health Agency (community & residential treatment), and previous experience working in the domestic violation and sexual assault sector.

What is your personal background?

I'm an Australian-Canadian currently living in Ontario, Canada, where I'm raising my two "Can-Aussie" kids with my partner. When I'm not working with clients or on my PhD, I enjoy Australian chocolate biscuits, listening to podcasts, Harry Potter, Gilmore Girls, and reading romance novels.

Why should I choose you as my clinical supervisor?

My combination of extensive professional experience, ongoing academic research, and personal understanding of the challenges clinicians face allows me to provide uniquely insightful and supportive supervision. I'm passionate about empowering clinicians to thrive professionally while protecting their personal well-being.
